Plastic-Free Keys
The same tap at the door. Far less plastic in the bin.
The short answer
Band and Key's eco-friendly hotel key cards come in layered paper board, real wood veneer, and recycled or bio-based plastics, and resorts can add wristbands with a wooden tag. The chip inside is the same, so your locks and encoders work as before, and we tell you exactly what each option is made from.
What we need from you
- The make and model of your door locks, or a key card you use today
- Which materials you are considering, and what you plan to tell guests
- Number of rooms, and how many cards you use a year
- Your logo or full artwork
- Typical order
- Minimums vary by product, and we confirm yours in the quote.
- Lead time
- Most orders take 4 to 8 weeks from artwork approval; wooden cards take longer. Your quote gives you a firm date.
Wood, paper and recycled key cards that cut single-use plastic without changing how your locks work.
Most key cards are thrown away or left in rooms. Switching to wood, paper or recycled materials is one of the easiest visible steps a property can take on plastic, because guests see and handle the result.
The chip inside is the same, so your locks and encoders work exactly as before. We will tell you precisely what each option is made from and how it should be disposed of, so what you tell guests is accurate.

Questions buyers ask
Are paper key cards recyclable?
Yes, once the chip is removed. Our paper key cards are made from laminated layers of paper board around the chip, so the card can go into paper recycling after the chip comes out. We do not claim more than that. Our guide on whether hotel key cards can be recycled covers every material.
Will eco-friendly key cards work with my locks?
Yes. Paper, wooden and recycled cards carry the same chip as a standard key card, matched to your lock system, so your locks and encoder work exactly as before. Tell us the make and model and we confirm the chip before printing. Our guide to MIFARE Classic vs Ultralight explains the common hotel chips.
